Heron Taxidermy : Process of Taxidermy for Museum mounts. Subject is a Great Blue Heron that was killed due to garbage entangling bill thus causing the animal to not be able to eat, drink, or fly. This Specimen was collected under a salvage permit and will be placed in the permanent collection of a university upon completion. The process of creating a museum mount is to provide a specimen for other scientist to be able to use for information. Pertinent information such as cord length, tail length, tarsus length, culmen length, and of course weight is recorded prior to skinning. The study skin in arranged in such a way that it does not take up excess space in limited drawer space. Though this specimen died due to negligence of people in the form of littering, it will be used to provide information to future scientist about this species as well as demonstrate the detrimental effect of litter on our environment.
